As you can see, most of these are: 1. Adaptations of stage plays (such as "Rope") 2. Remakes of BBC one-offs (such as "Ending It") 3. Remakes of ITV anthology episodes (such as "A Night Out") 4. Remakes of US anthology episodes (such as "Tragedy in a Temporary Town")
Some are locally written, but not many. But given that there was virtually no Australian film industry at all during the 1950s/early 1960s (the industry had imploded in the early 1940s, so television isn't to blame), a few locally written TV plays was nevertheless a big step and a big deal.
Most of these aired on non-commercial ABC. Starting in 1959, commercial TV began offering the occasional local TV play, but not in the same quantity as ABC.
I wonder how many of these exist as kinescope recordings or early video-tape.
